On Monday October 15, athletes and coaches alike gathered in Harry’s Plaza Cafe as Presidio Sports representative John Dvorak announced the Santa Barbara Round Table Athlete of the Week.
San Marcos’ own sophomore Anika Wilson, from the Varsity Volleyball team, was presented with this award after a five game match against Dos Pueblos High School. Wilson had a total of 35 digs that helped lead San Marcos to victory, placing them in a tie for first place in league.
“It was a huge emotional win that could change the course of the season,” said Dvorak, as he presented the award to Wilson.
“I wasn’t expecting it, but I’m really honored,” said Wilson. “It’s nice for San Marcos to get some recognition for how hard all the sports teams have been working. We have been pushing ourselves really hard at practice and our coaches are putting a lot of time and effort into making this team successful.”
The Athlete of the Week award is chosen out of all athletes in the Santa Barbara area by a poll of local sports writers and is overseen by Presidiosports.com.
The volleyball team battled Ventura High in a four game match win on Tuesday and look forward to an important game against Santa Barbara on Thursday.
