San Marcos girls waterpolo pulled out a huge win on wednesday over the Edison Chargers who were ranked 2nd in their own league. Finishing the game with a 11-8 victory, the Royals pulled ahead with a strong lead in the first quarter and held this lead throughout the game. With help from sophomore Jenna Phreaner in cage, shutting down 11 of Edisons 19 shots and making three steals, the Royals powerful offense took advantage of gaps in the defense and power play opportunities. With five of the royals scoring throughout the game a variety of opportunities arose during the game and the Royals successfully took advantage.
“We really put a lot of goals away early in the game and this helped us keep our momentum throughout the game,” said junior Frannie Kuesis. “Our drop defense worked well to shut them down on offense and we took advantage of this to score counter attack goals.”
The Royals play #2 ranked Foothill on Saturday at their home pool to advance to the semi-finals.
