Recently, several outstanding community members were honored by the PTSA. Every year the PTSA awards the Distinguished Services Award to parents, teachers, administrators, staff and community partners who go above and beyond in their service to all of San Marcos. Individuals who do not only do their job or look out for the well being of their child but for the San Marcos community as a whole.

Almost everyone who does anything at San Marcos could win because we have such an amazing faculty, staff, administration and parent group,” said PTSA member and 2013 winner Katina Etsell.

Anyone in the community can nominate individuals to win this award. You are not eligible to win if you were honored in the last five years. After being nominated, a committee of parents and Mr. Behrens reviewed the nominees and decided on the winners.

This year’s winners are Cindy Elster, Katina Etsell, Matthew Fay, Judi Koper, Negin Parvin, Julie Proctor, Linda Arroyo, George Egbert, Jose Gomez, Jack Hobbs, Abe Jahadhmy, Sonia Lopez, Jaime Navarro, Aaron Solis, Jayne Wamsley, JR Electric, and John Boettner. These people have put many hours of time and effort in making San Marcos and the community a better place.

It’s always been an honor and privilege to be honored by peers, colleagues, and the San Marcos community,” said two time recipient Mr. Castellanos. “It is an honor to receive this award. I am proud of my work at San Marcos and extremely fortunate to be able to work with my students and colleagues here at San Marcos High School.”
