On Friday, August 30, 2013, San Marcos Royals say goodbye to fellow staff member, Kathy Castaneda. Ms. Castaneda has worked as the Career Center Coordinator at San Marcos for 5 years. Her unwavering support and thoughtful advice has greatly impacted students of San Marcos.
When asked what her favorite part of her job was, Ms. Castaneda aenthusiastically said, “My favorite part of my job is getting to know the students, watching them grow and develop as young adults, and witnessing them take advantage of situations and opportunities I present.”
Ms. Castaneda agreed that her time at San Marcos had also been a learning experience.
“I learned from the students that your generation is much more open minded and hold bigger responsibilities and expectations. You have more opportunities. Students have helped me keep myself open minded and taught me to be accepting and to just role with things.”
Ms. Castaneda will close this door and open another as she continues her life path to the Botanical Gardens where she will be the Manager of Volunteer Services. Her love for nature has brought her there and in the words of Kathy Castaneda, “You have to try to do everything you want to do while you can. Or in other words, YOLO.”
