The Varsity Girls Volleyball team has had an outstanding season. At the Santa Barbara game on October 22, the Royals swept the Dons in 3 sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20.
Going into the game the girls had hopes of beating the Dons after losing to them a few weeks earlier.
“I hope for us to sacrifice the ‘me’ for the ‘we’ and push one another mentally and work together to come out on top with a victory against the Dons,” said sophomore Gabrielle Peoples.
The Royals began with a 9-1 lead over Santa Barbara, highlighting the Dons various hitting and serving errors. Peoples was all over the court that night, and inspired the team to play better with her bright energy. She helped the Royals strike a comeback from being 13-9 in the second set.
“They really showed that they wanted it. It was a great win for us,” said coach Erica Downing.
“I would say the highlight of the game was the energy, both in the crowd and within our team,” said junior Chloe Allen. “ I am most proud that we could rise above all of the drama leading up to game and still play strong and come out on top.”
Senior, Anika Wilson, showed how proud and thankful she is for her team after this exciting win.
“I’m so proud of my team for keeping our composure. Santa Barbara had a huge crowd and the game was very heated, but we kept our focus, took care of the ball, and did what we needed to do,” said Anika.
San Marcos showed their outstanding volleyball skills against the Santa Barbara Dons, and they are looking forward to continue their season with more wins and a trip to CIF.
