On Tuesday, November 4th, our San Marcos Volleyball team lost a close match to Ventura High School. They battled to the fifth set with scores of 25-14, 25-23,18-25, 13-25, 13-15. This caused Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Marcos to share the title of Channel League Champions.
San Marcos had a strong lead against Ventura in the first two sets, but Ventura fought back to win the next two sets. The last set unfortunately was lost as a result of 4 hits from our San Marcos team making Ventura run onto the court and rejoice for their win.
“My hope going into the game was that we would play efficiently and pull off a win, clinching Channel League,” said sophomore Cassidy Drury Pullen.
Anika Wilson had an outstanding 19 kills that night, and led San Marcos through the third and fourth set.
“The atmosphere in the gym was really awesome. We had lots of fans and support and it was really fun,” said Anika.
Although San Marcos lost, there were many highlights in the game.
“My favorite play would probably be when one of the girls hit the ball and it bounced off of Anika’s shoulder over the net and we got the point,” said junior Chloe Allen.
Throughout the season the team has been improving and learning something.
“Every time they play, they’re learning something, every time they practice, they are learning something.” said coach Erica Downing. “There is just not a lot of time, so whether practice or in a game, the girls are learning something new all the time and improving themselves.”
Unfortunately, San Marcos did not play their best at this game and did not clinch the Channel League title. San Marcos will play at CIF along with Ventura and Santa Barbara, and the Royals will play their first round game on November 11th.
