On Sunday, June 14, the Music and Arts Conservatory, or MAC, will be putting on a benefit concert entitled “Bach, Broadway & Beyond” at the Marjorie Luke Theater. This concert will feature notable MAC alumni and guest stars, and headlining the concert will be Tiffany Haas. Haas, a MAC alumna herself, is an acclaimed soprano singer and the star of “Wicked” on Broadway where she played Glinda the good witch. Also featured at the concert will be Maestro Ernie Richardson, esteemed resident conductor of the Omaha Symphony, who will be conducting MAC’s own Virtuoso orchestra.

The day before the concert, at UCSB’s Geiringer Hall from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Tiffany Haas and Ernie Richardson will be hosting a concert preview and a musical theatre masterclass.

These two events will benefit the Music and Arts Conservatory. MAC started in October 1989 at Santa Barbara City College, and since its inception it has been dedicated to fostering a love and dedication to the arts for all students. It has moved locations throughout the years and now resides at Girls’ Inc in Goleta. MAC meets once every week on Saturday from 10 am to 2:30 pm, and has offered classes on theatre, poetry, music appreciation, solfege, creative writing, art, choir, chamber music, and orchestras for both the advanced and more basic levels. MAC gives an opportunity for likeminded students to develop themselves in a nurturing environment where they excel in the creative and performing arts. Any student from age 5 to those in their last years of high school can attend. While graduates of MAC tend to have interesting careers, such as Leif Dautch, a deputy attorney general who was included on Forbes’ list of 30 successful people under the age of 30, 40% of MAC graduates have become professional musicians. Tiffany Haas is one of the many graduates who went on to a career in music.

Bach Broadway & Beyond is not an event to miss, as not only will MAC’s most gifted students and alumni showcase their orchestral talents, but Tiffany Haas will be performing songs such as Bach’s Cantata no. 51, a selection from Mozart’s Il Re Pastore, and you are sure to hear a selection from Wicked as well.

This is sure to be an unforgettable weekend for all lovers of music, so mark your calendars and be sure to attend!
