If you haven’t heard the term “Damn, Daniel” said by high school students in the last month, your time is near. What is Damn Daniel? It is a video starring 14 year old, Daniel Lara, and 15 year old cameraman, Josh Holz. Through the course of a 30 second video, Daniel walks around showing off his outfits as Josh repeatedly says “Damn Daniel,” even throwing in the popular phrase, “Back at it again with the white vans.”
The video was posted on February 15th and only took one day to go viral, receiving millions of views. A few days later, the memes and rap song parodies started rolling in. The boys eventually caught the attention of television host, Ellen DeGeneres, and they were featured on the Ellen Show, where Ellen gave Daniel a lifetime supply of Vans and Josh a customized surfboard.
“I am so happy,” said Daniel after the Ellen Show, “This is the best day of my life.”
While Daniel Lara has been having a good time with this popularity of fun over the past month, the rest of the Daniels all over the world, have not.
“My life over the past couple weeks has been very painful,” said junior Daniel Solomon, “Everywhere I go I constantly have people come up to me and say the words ‘damn, Daniel.’ I don’t think I’ll ever be the same.”
The future looks bright for these teen stars, as they have already arranged to appear in a Weezer music video for their new song, “California Kids,” and have made news headlines for donating their lifetime supply of Vans to Linda University Children’s Hospital.
