The San Marcos softball team is getting off to a great start. They are early into their season, but are currently undefeated aside from one difficult tournament on March 5th. The team, lead by coach Jeff Swann and team captains Hailee Rios and Cara Christian, looks like it has a promising season ahead. They played their first league game on Friday, March 17, against Buena High School. (will update)
“We have our first league game on Friday, so that’s exciting,” said junior Lauren Pitchford. “The team is also really close this year which is great.”
The team’s enthusiasm and camaraderie will take them far. The team’s best scores so far are 11-2 against Hueneme and 7-0 against Nordhoff. With many experienced players, the team is becoming consistent at having high scoring games.
“We’ve had a lot of home runs already this season by five of our players,” said junior Alex Pitchford. “I think on average we have a home run or two per game.”
Coach Swann is very excited about the upcoming season. He commented that the team only lost one senior from last season, and gained two talented freshmen, Megan Cunningson and Sinai Miranda.
“All of these players play their positions well and have improved in their hitting since last season,” said Coach Swann. “I know I can rotate in any player at any time and we do not lose any skill or experience.”
This great start to the Softball team’s season shows that every upcoming game will be exciting. Come to the next game and show your support!
