Girl’s Tennis wraps up

The San Marcos Girls tennis team proved their dominance again this year with many victories, and once again they are the Channel League Champions. A big win came back in late September, when the girls, in dramatic fashion, defeated their rivals, DP, in nail-biting fashion. After losing to them early on in the season, the exciting rematch was all the fans could ask for.

Sophomore Kelly Coulson gave the team momentum early on by beating DP’s No.1 player senior Mikala Triplett, 6-4.

“What a great win by Kelly. That really was an important point and really set the tone for the rest of the match,” said Coach Fred Hartzman.

It was a hard-fought match from both teams, but the girls emerged victorious. After this game, they continued to improve and dominate the league.

Everyone contributed to a fantastic season. Huge wins over Ventura, Buena, Santa Ynez, and San Luis Obispo, all lead up to them becoming the League Champions.

Winning Channel League this year was incredible, especially after the slow start to the season,” said sophomore Yuka Perera. “Hopefully we can keep up this trend and have another strong season next year.”

The team had a fantastic season, and coach Hartzman had something to say about it.

“I am very happy how this team has progressed throughout the season,” said San Marcos Coach Hartzman. “We started 1-3 and 0-1 in league but from there we won 11 out of 12 matches and finished the second round of league undefeated.”

The team this year was one of the strongest ever, coming back from a 1-3 record to win Channel League and reign again as the best girls golf team in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.
