The Girl’s Volleyball Season has come to a close and as we look back on their incredible performance, everyone can be very proud. Led by co-head coaches Tina Brown and Dwayne Hauschild, the goal for this season was to try and compete for the league title against Ventura. Unfortunately we were not able to do so. However, it is worth noting that out of Ventura’s 14 player roster, they have seven seniors, which does not bode well for the future strength of the team. San Marcos finished second in the league with a 5-3 record, falling behind Ventura who went undefeated. And with only four players graduating, the team should remain strong next year.
“I am especially pleased that we were able to compete well with Santa Barbara and DP,” said sophomore Molly Kirkbride.
The team played impeccably against their local rivals. In the first league game against Santa Barbara, we won with a final score of 3-0. SB did not come close in a single set, the scores being 25-12, 25-18, and 25-18. And the second time we played Santa Barbara in the league we won 3-0.
Unfortunately, things did not go as well against Dos Pueblos. In our first league game against DP we fought until the very end with a final score of 3-2. The next league game against DP went a lot better, with us winning 3-1 at home.
“The team worked really hard this year and I know we have improved a lot for next year,” said junior Sierra Palladino.
The team is now looking to the future. Since this year our varsity team had a lot of younger athletes it is likely that in the near future, our team will be able to achieve our goals and win a lot of games. Until then we have to wait and see what they will be able to accomplish and hopefully soon, the Channel League title will come to San Marcos.
