Since the 1800’s, one iconic figure has been known as a man of mystery and wit. Sherlock Holmes and his companion John Watson, have starred in many novels and films. But six years ago, the two traveled in time to present-day London to solve new kinds of mysteries on the BBC show, Sherlock. The series soon became a hit and has made three seasons. Each season contains three episodes that last over an hour each. Sherlock started off 2017 as a thriller with the release of its first episode of season four.
Sherlock, directed by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, released season one in summer of 2010, but it was not a classic remake of Sherlock Holmes. The two placed Sherlock’s life in present day London with cases involving drugs and terrorists. The audience sees a modern day and more cutting edge group of characters who deal with the daily struggles of modern crimes.
“It was my favorite season so far,” said freshman Alivia Morales. “Season four left me in shock.”
The show begins with the introduction of John Watson and a brief look into his past of war and loss. Not too soon after do we get acquainted with the clever Mr. Sherlock Holmes. The two go on adventures filled with murder and crime, always leaving us with a cliffhanger at the end of every season. Season four begins with Sherlock, John, and John’s wife, Mary as they go on an adventure that not only includes a lot of crime, but a glance back to a haunting past. We learn more secrets about one of the characters which will not only cause them pain, but their friends and family as well.
“I really like the character development with Sherlock and how they are humanizing him more throughout the season,” said sophomore Nate Ewart. “The darker plot with the unknown Moriarty aspect is pretty intriguing to watch.”
Sherlock season four is filled with loopholes and secrets that will leave you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. I would recommend starting from the beginning to fully understand season four.
