Having had 2020’s Summer X-games cancelled due to the Covid pandemic, viewers were thrilled to once again tune in to ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC to watch this year’s Winter X-Games in Aspen, Colorado. From January 29th to the 31st, skiers and snowboarders alike gathered safely to represent their countries, show their skills, and have a good time back on the Buttermilk Mountain. Although no fans were allowed to attend, that didn’t stop some of the biggest names in skiing and snowboarding, and some talented rookies, from displaying yet another year’s worth of amazing X-Games talent. Although it is highly recommended to watch the runs of all the athletes to get the proper takeaway experience of the games, here will be listed the medal athletes in men’s and women’s skiing and snowboarding of the 2021 Winter X-Games:
Although there were some setbacks for a couple of the athletes due to Covid complications and injuries, such as with snowboard legend Shaun White who was returning to the games for the first time since 2017, this year’s Winter X-Games as a whole can definitely still be considered a success.
“I was very disappointed to find out that the Summer X-Games were not going to happen, but luckily the Winter X-Games were able to commence and it was quite the show […] I thought it was super cool to see some rookies taking home gold,” says Madison Tuckman, Junior at SBHS.
A massive congratulations to all those who placed scores to get them a spot on the podium and for all those who came out despite the bumpy year behind. It is highly recommended that you check out full or highlight streams of this year’s Winter X-games, it was packed with monumental moments you don’t want to miss.
