Goodbye Teachers

Goodbye+Teachers

As this school year comes to an end, we also say goodbye to some staff who have helped and inspired countless students that have passed through the halls at San Marcos Senior High School.

Mrs. Merrill has been a teacher for 16 years and taught at San Marcos for 9 years. She plans to spend her retirement travelling and playing beach volleyball.

“She made teaching her passion and it reflected in her students who told me how much they LOVED Ms. Merrill’s class,” said Health and family teacher Michael Thrasher.

Mrs. Merril shared a goodbye statement to the Royal community, “Get Sleep! Exercise. Eat Real Food. Mostly Plants. Not Too Much.”

Mr. Ceriale began his teaching career here in San Marcos and has been doing so for 27 years. Mr. Ceriale looks forward to retiring to Lake Nacimiento with his wife and dog, Taffy.

“ I feel privileged to have been inspired by this gifted, forward-thinking educator. He goes above and beyond teaching more than what is on any syllabus, he is preparing you for life,” said former student of Mr. Ceriale, and currently a Doctor of Chiropractic, Justine Bellefeuille.

Mr. Ceriale shared a goodbye statement to his former students, “To all my former students: You are my hero!”

Mr. Steihren has been in education for 18 years, 5 of which he has served as a San Marcos administrator. He is planning to move to the San Francisco Bay area once he departs from San Marcos.

“Mike is one of the most caring and equity-minded educators and administrators that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. His absence will be deeply felt for years to come in the SMHS community,” said Principal Kip Glazer.

Mr. Stieren shared a goodbye statement to the San Marcos community, “San Marcos will forever hold a special place in my heart and mind. This is where I began my career in education in 2004 as a Paraeducator in Special Education and it is where I will end my career with the Santa Barbara schools almost 18 years later.I am eternally grateful for the time and I will cherish the memories. Heck Yeah Royals.”

As we end this school year, let us remember to thank the valuable staff that have contributed to make San Marcos High School a better place!
