I can easily say that Halloween Movies are possibly the best genre of movies to exist. It’s just a fact. There is something about the way the cold weather and smell of Halloween around the corner works with these movies. If you have not gotten into the spirit yet, something that will push you is a movie night with all of the top Halloween Movies scary or not. If you have already kept up with your movie watchings and just need something new, or you are just starting, I am here to help. I recommend that you continue reading for mine and many others staple Halloween movies.

Let’s start off with my favorite movie, I am not sure if it classifies as a Halloween movie but it deserves to be shared. Coraline, starring Dakota Fanning as Coraline, takes place when a young girl moves into a new house with her parents. She notices something different about her new apartment, because she is an only child. While moving in she discovers a small hidden door that she decides to explore. This door takes her on wild, dangerous, exciting adventures, and another set of parents. On a scale of 1/10 I rate this movie a 10. It’s so entertaining and gives me major fall/Halloween vibes.

My next favorite movie is something I would watch all of the time on Disney Channel. The movie Halloweentown starring Kimberly J. Brown playing Marnie Piper. This movie follows a teenage girl who feels very connected to this Holiday. On this night after her Grandma comes to visit her little sister Sophie, and brother Dylan decide to follow their Grandma home. To their surprise their Grandma lives in Halloweentown, the town of ghosts, goblins, witches, etc. On Marnie’s 13th birthday she finds out she comes from a line of witches, not only this, but she finds out there is an evil roaming in Halloweentown that she and her family must defeat. This movie is so great, it’s kid friendly, and puts everyone in the Halloween spirit. I rate this movie a 8/10. It’s such a classic, and it’s not too boring. There are some parts that seem a bit slower but it automatically picks up.

The next movie I love is more of a Halloween comedy, the movie Fun Size starring Victoria Justice as Wren, takes you along a teenagers day as she gets ready for a Halloween party. Wren’s mother decides to spring a surprise on her, she is going out and leaves Wren’s little brother Albert with her. Wren brings Albert with her to the party of the year and ends up losing him. The rest of the movie takes you on the hunt and adventure of finding Albert. This movie is rated PG-13 but it’s super funny. I rate this movie a 7/10. It’s funny, but at times can be very corny. It’s very entertaining and fast paced. When asking Senior Natalie Mowers what she thought about this movie she replied with, “ It’s my favorite Halloween movie because I love the characters and it reminds me of being with my family around the Holiday time.

The Fear Street trilogy are new Netflix Originals that came out this year. There is Fear Street 1994, 1976, and 1666, and all of them are really popular. It is about a town that has been haunted for many years by a witch. In the first Fear Street 1994, Deena and her friends fight together to get rid of this curse and fight off the murderers that came from it. In the next one 1976, what starts off as a fun Summer turns into a complete nightmare. At Camp Nightwing Ziggy Berman and Sister Cindy fight for survival as they had just discovered the town was cursed and they were right on top of the site. In the last Fear Street 1666, it takes you to the origin story of the witch that haunts Shadyside. This series of movies goes backwards and shows you where and how everything started. I definitely recommend this trilogy and give it a 10/10. It’s the right amount of suspense, scariness, and funniness.

I saved the best movie for last, the Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus. This movie takes place in Salem, Massachusetts . A young boy Max Dension explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani and friend Allison. While in the abandoned house Allison tells a story about three witches who were killed in the witch trials, which he says “Is a bunch of Hocus Pocus.” Max next does a fake ritual which turns out to be real, releasing the Sanderson sisters. The sisters go on an adventure to become immortal. When asking Gov teacher Mr.Clow what his favorite Halloween movie was, and why, he responded with, “Hocus Pocus, its classic and comforting. It really puts me in the Halloween spirit. My favorite part of the movie is when the witch rides the vacuum.” In my opinion this movie is overhyped, but still very good. I rate it an 8/10.

Happy Halloween Royals, if you choose not to go out enjoy these movies and relax. I hope I was able to help you figure out some new movies to watch.
