Oscar Outfits

The 2023 Oscars saw a dazzling array of Hollywood’s biggest stars hit the champagne carpet in their most glamorous ensembles. From classic Hollywood glamor to bold and daring fashion statements, the 95th Academy Awards showcased a variety of styles and looks that left the fashion world buzzing. Here are some of the best-dressed stars of the night:

Versace’s Fall-Winter 2023 runway last week was presented in Hollywood and was purposefully set for the week of the Oscars. Gigi Hadid opened Versace’s show in a floor-length, black gown that had a low waistline and sheer top-half with a corset structure, which Lady Gaga was later seen at the awards in the exact same dress. This happened exactly two days after it was on the runway, turning heads of all in the fashion world and fulfilling some predictions as well.

Everything Everywhere All at Once star, Harry Shum Jr., stepped into the spotlight with a major style moment, in a half-kimono, half-tuxedo designed by Adeam and styled by Warren Alfie Baker. The half & half look was to represent his multicultural background as an Asian American, explained by Adeam. Adeam took a classic tuxedo and infused it with Eastern-inspired details, such as the overlapping collar and sash-like belt. The white and navy color palette of the suit is inspired by Shum’s role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, as he plays a chef that wears a white chef’s coat with navy piping.

Another standout on the champagne carpet was Angela Bassett, for her role as Queen Ramonda, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She wore a dazzling purple custom ultraviolet mermaid gown by Moschino. The strapless gown featured a dramatic train and she paired the look with an elegant silver snake necklace. Bassett completed her look with a round planet-shaped bag, Sarah Flint heels, and simple diamond earrings.

Ram Charan from the night’s winning film RRR wore military-inspired clothing with Indian influences from Shantanu & Nikhil. On a traditional draping kurta, the bandhgala has a bespoke Chakra button, and the jacket has multiple military-inspired brooches.

Margot Robbie turned heads in a stunning black Armani Privé gown. This was a major surprise as she sticks to her usual Chanel look at the previous awards. The dress had a low neckline and was adorned with delicate embroidery. The actress gave “glitzy-glam”, with her hair down and slicked back.

Malala Yousafzai also went to the award night in a bedazzling hooded gown by Ralph Lauren. But, more than the dress, Malala’s jewelry was the true star of her outfit. The social activist studded in Fred Leighton jewelry previously owned by Queen Soraya Tarzi of Afghanistan, a legendary activist herself. Queen Soraya is best known as the driving force behind the education and emancipation of women in Afghanistan in the early 20th century. She also founded the country’s first magazine for women which promoted women’s welfare, and she established the first primary school for girls in Kabul, which made much content with Malala’s acknowledgment of her work and continuing to inspire young activists.

The 2023 Oscars ceremony was a night of high fashion and daring outfits. These stars, among many others, stole the show with their impeccable style and stunning outfits, making for an unforgettable night on the champagne carpet.
