“It [senior night] was a very emotional moment because I’ve been on the team since freshman year, but I am excited for a new chapter,” said senior Evelyn Flores.

After these players were honored, the game commenced, with neither team scoring for the first 20 minutes. San Marcos forward sophomore Zeina Matni scored the first goal of the night, leaving the score at 1-0 up until halftime.

In the final minute of the game,  junior Nicolly Oh scored yet another goal for the Royals, and freshman Cameron Sparks scored the last goal of the night, cementing the Royals’ win at 3-0.

“It was a good effort from the whole team. I like how we all came together,” said Flores.

This win put the team in third place in Channel League, moving them on to playoffs.

Boys soccer played a triumphant game against Santa Barbara as well. Front-line players seniors Favian Rosales and Kevin Sanchez scored goals in the first half, and junior Jose Ramirez finalized the win in the 49th minute, 3-0.

“My favorite moment was when we scored the first goal, when Favi scored, it boosted all of us to work harder and not give up on each other,” said freshman Wesley Monroy.

This victory puts San Marcos in fourth place in Channel League, tied with Santa Barbara with 23 points. Their next game will be an away game against Oxnard on Wednesday, January 31, and it will be their senior night.
