The San Marcos boys volleyball team made a stunning first statement in their season opener.
The first game of the Varsity volleyball season was on February 21.
“I think it was a great game, we had a lot of guys involved like our middle attack, both our pins, though we made a few errors here and there but once we hone that we will be a really good team,” said junior setter Ayden Welch.
The game started off slow with some missed serves from San Marcos, but midway through the first set senior Mason Rice had an amazing save. Leading to a point for San Marcos, giving them their first lead. The Royals started to cook, winning the set 25-16. The second set was one of the best ones from San Marcos yet with the largest win from them by 11 points with a final score of 25-14. During the final set it seemed the game was already in the books as the same senior player, Rice, started doing handstands mid-set. The game resulted in a 3-0 victory for San Marcos.
Junior outside hitter Dodge Rivadeneyra about how he thinks the season will go he said, “we’re going to dominate, we’re going to beat Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos 100%.”
All around our team looked very good, especially the new freshman Mateo Burdick, showing a promising future for our program.
The next home boys volleyball game will be March 5 in the Thunderhut against Rio Mesa at 7:00 pm.
