The San Marcos varsity softball team won an important rivalry game against Dos Pueblos on Monday, 4-3. The softball team had also played Dos Pueblos on the previous Friday where they lost after a close battle with the final score of Dos Pueblos 2 and San Marcos 1.

Dos Pueblos kicked off the game by getting in two runs in just the first inning, while playing stong defense until the seventh.

San Marcos junior Kayla Aguilar made a great diving play to save a run almost scored by Dos Pueblos, and Freshman Isabella Malarkey added to the game-tying hit with a single to right field and Dessert followed that up with an RBI groundout to give San Marcos a 3-2 advantage earlier on in the game.

“It felt great to beat Dos Pueblos, especially after the stressful game on Friday,” said senior softball player Kamilah Morales. “The team played really well together,  we had some great hits and plays.”

It was in the seventh inning of the game that lasted a little bit under two hours. Kamilah Morales, senior and center fielder, had a chance with two outs and she took full advantage, hitting a double to the fence that scored senior Tiana Monaghan from first base to home and giving the Royals a 4-3 lead to end the game.

Overall it was a great game for the Royals. They were able to beat Dos Pueblos in an important rivalry game as well as redeem themselves for their previous loss against them. The next softball game is on Friday against Oxnard.
