College application season often leads seniors through a stressful time, but college decisions can do the same. Many may be worried while wondering whether or not they were accepted, while others may be confronted with rejections from colleges. A good thing to keep in mind is that you will end up somewhere, and will find your way a year from now.
If you are still awaiting responses, in order to keep track of your colleges until then, keep-up with your emails and just write down when they come out to be in the know. Also, planning fun activities until the decisions come out is a great way to distract yourself. Seeing as your friends are probably going through the same, plan some group hangouts in order to keep your minds off of the results.
On the other hand, if you have gotten answers from your schools, but it was not what you hoped for, it is important to keep a healthy mindset about it.
Ms. Woodard, the college counselor at San Marcos said, “Colleges are businesses, in a sense, and they have institutional privacy. Before the admissions season even begins, schools decide what type of students they’re looking for. So many students apply to a small number of schools that applicants can look similar. You can be a fantastic student and be 100% capable of completing the work at that school, but may just be missing that one little extra thing.”
She continued and said that, “When you get those rejections, I know it’s really hard, but you just have to just not take it personally. You just didn’t have what they were looking for, but it absolutely does not mean that you can’t find a spot at a school and have it be a wonderful experience.
If you received any rejection from a college, make sure to show up to the College and Career Center on Thursday, April 8, where their “Denial Party” will be taking place. Simply show up with a printed copy of your rejection letter, and everyone will pass them through the paper shredder and celebrate with pizza.
When getting your responses from colleges, just remember that it is not as much about the school, but mostly about what you make of it. Whichever school or whatever path you end up on, make the best of it, and it will be the right match for you.
