What if instead of reading this article you were sitting on the beach? That is where you would be right now if summer was longer. The school year is very long and tiring, therefore students need more time to relax, clear their minds, and enjoy themselves.
Sophomore Hugo Calixto states his opinion when being asked on benefits of a longer summer “You feel more confident when you come back to school” This shows that a longer summer benefits students’ mental well being.
One argument why summer should stay the same is, students will forget everything they learned in the previous year. That argument is true, as students do forget some of the work they learned the year before during summer, but that is completely normal because it allows the students to then come back to school with a fresh mindset.
In my personal experience, when I first come back from summer I am a little rusty on remembering the work from the year before, but after a couple days I start to remember everything, and by the end of the year I end up knowing more than the year before.
If summer was longer students would have more time to enjoy life and mentally get themselves ready for school. In conclusion, if schools have a longer summer break students will come back both happier, and healthier.
