As the 2024-2025 school year begins, there are countless changes to be noted across campus, including the additions to administration. This year, San Marcos High School has welcomed various new staff members to our community, notably, two new assistant principals. You may have already been introduced to them at the beginning of the year’s events or even had them introduce themselves personally as they went through and visited classes throughout these first two weeks. Regardless, the King’s Page would like to spotlight both them and the wonderful work they have not only already accomplished but will continue to accomplish throughout the rest of the year.
Our first staff member to welcome is Jennifer Conway. Conway, who now serves as one of our three hardworking assistant principals, graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. From there she went on to be a part of the Goleta Union School District teaching Special Education at Hollister Elementary for 13 years and another year in general education before joining the San Marcos community. At San Marcos, she oversees a range of responsibilities with everything from athletics and school activities to custodial and school safety drills all falling under Conway’s onus.
“I love being here and think it is such a fun space to be in,” said Conway when asked about her transition to San Marcos. “I really enjoy talking with students and the staff and administration has been really friendly and supportive,” she adds.
Alongside Conway, the second new staff member to highlight is Gabriela Cabrera. Cabrera is also serving as one of our three assistant principals, serving as an amazing addition to our administration. Like Conway, she also graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) but with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Here at San Marcos, Cabrera deals with a variety of tasks. She works with testing, summer school, registration, EMLs, and so much more.
As assistant principals, both Conway and Cabrera will collaborate closely with our amazing principal, Dare Holdren, to further our school’s success. Principal Holdren shared his enthusiasm for the new additions to his team saying, “I am excited about both of our new Assistant Principals. They are both extremely intelligent and capable, they both love helping kids, and they are both intent on making San Marcos the best school ever. I look forward to the ongoing positive impact they’ll have on our community.”
As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, the introduction of both Conway and Cabrera marks a positive beginning. Like Principal Holdren, the King’s Page is eager to witness the hard work they will undoubtedly contribute as the school year progresses.
