With back to school comes many annual traditions here at San Marcos High School. Getting into the routine of studying after a too-short summer, football game season is knee-deep in action, we begin to plan our Halloween costumes, and we can’t forget the famous Homecoming dance.
Homecoming occurs every fall anytime from the end of September to the end of October. Homecoming and Prom are the two biggest dances here at school, the only difference is Hoco is for the whole school to attend. There is much planning that goes into a great Homecoming evening: a perfect dress, hairstyle, makeup, and we can’t overlook nails! Believe it or not, nails can make a whole outfit. Whether you go to a salon or paint them yourself, they bring looks together to give you an overall more put together appearance. The first nail color to consider is a classic pale pink. Also, after the night of the big dance is over, this versatile shade of pink will still go with almost all of your other outfits. You truly can’t go wrong with pink.
Second is cherry red. This is always a color that you see often during the fall. That’s because there is something so classy yet bold about it. It will go with most dresses and definitely add a pop. However, if your dress is green you may want to avoid this bright shade of red as that could create a holiday-esque look which may not be what you’re looking for.
Even though Homecoming is during the fall, there is nothing wrong with channeling a bit of summer with butter yellow nails. They are sweet and charming and you can’t go wrong with them. Once again, they will match other things besides your homecoming dress.
Next is periwinkle which is a cute mix of light blue and purple. Whether your dress is on the brighter side or more neutral, periwinkle will provide the subtle pop of color you may need.
Fifth is ecru, a shade of white with cream undertones, it is warm yet classic. Perhaps you may want to get french tip nails with ecru at the end. French tips will never go out of style and have been popular since the 70’s.
“I think French tips are a great choice for Homecoming because they are classic and go with everything,” said junior Natalie Anderson.
Finally is a light stone gray. While it may seem boring, it is anything but. A cool light stone gray will go perfectly with any color homecoming dress, and any other item in your closet. Is there anything that wouldn’t match a classic gray? If going to a salon, consider requesting an almond shaped extension for this color.
Royals, this is your reminder that while considering your dress, shoes, hair, and makeup for this years ‘Night in Paris’ themed Homecoming dance, do not forget your nails! They will bring your whole look together and help create a night you will never forget.
