From upcoming holiday festivities like Halloween and Día de los Muertos to dodgeball tournaments, our San Marcos ASB has been working hard to actively increase the variety and number of activities available to students this year—and has been doing an amazing job at it. With one term of the semester behind us and a quarter of the 2024-2025 school year in the history books, students have already enjoyed everything from spirited football games to post-game parties, and even the first dance of the year: Homecoming. Despite all this excitement, ASB has even more in store for the coming months.
With Halloween just around the corner, San Marcos is gearing up to celebrate as a student body with multiple lunchtime activities, including trick-or-treating from class to class, a costume contest in the Greek (with categories for scariest, most creative, and best overall), and more!
Then, during the second period on November 8th, students are encouraged to attend the Veterans Day assembly on the football field, held near San Marcos’ very own veteran monument.
On November 12th, San Marcos is bringing back the dodgeball tournament for the first time this year. The tournament will take place in the Greek, giving students the opportunity to form teams and participate. For the first time ever, the House of Representatives has voted to make the tournament themed, requiring teams to dress as identifiable units to compete.
Additionally, on November 20th, San Marcos will host its first-ever World Culture Day! This event will offer students the chance to showcase their heritage by decorating a table, either individually or with friends, representing their culture or country of origin. They can also share a beloved dish from that culture, promoting diversity, intercultural dialogue, and unity on campus.
Finally, the Senior Class Christmas tree fundraiser is now underway. ASB has partnered with a farm in Oregon to sell Christmas trees through the school, with all proceeds going directly toward funding senior activities like Prom, Grad Night, and more. Those interested in supporting the seniors can order a tree through the SMHS webstore.
San Marcos ASB has truly gone above and beyond in fostering school spirit, inclusivity, and community engagement through a range of activities this year. Keep an eye out for opportunities to get involved, make new connections, and show your Royal pride!
