Yay:
Blake Lively, the actress we all know for her roles in shows like Gossip Girl and movies like The Shallows and It Ends with Us, has built a reputation for being down-to-earth, witty and kind throughout the years. Qualities that set her apart from many other Hollywood personalities.
Not only does she donate significant amounts of money to various causes such as hunger relief and human rights organizations like the Child Rescue Coalition, but she also uses her social media presence and popularity to advocate for body positivity. She has been involved in anti-human trafficking efforts and environmental conversations too! Blake Lively is trying to make the world a better place by spreading positivity and love. Junior Mady Meagher says, “I watched her in Gossip Girl and she is a great actress!”
Lively has truly shaped the film industry with her remarkable work.
During the promotion of her new movie, It Ends with Us, people on social media started pointing out how mean she was in some of her past interviews and how she allegedly down played the main topic of her new movie, domestic violence. While people criticize her for not taking domestic violence seriously, Lively posted a story on instagram in which she raised awareness on abusive relationships with a link to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. She wrote, “Everyone deserves relationships free from domestic violence.”
To be honest,we only start talking about people as soon as they become even slightly controversial and disappoint us in the way they act. But we rarely hear about them if they are simply doing good things and living peacefully.
Of course, we should be aware of the fact that some of her actions and conversations were not okay, but at the same time, we also need to acknowledge all of the positive impact she had. In the current climate of cancel culture it’s easy for us to lean in our disappointment of people and write them off entirely, rather than allowing space for understanding and growth. We should remember that mistakes can lead to valuable learning and change. I think we rush with judgment too often, missing the possibility of a meaningful dialogue that creates space to a more positive and forgiving society.
So should you stop watching your favorite show just because you saw her being mean in one of her previous interviews? Probably not. She still is a role model for many people all around the world. Blake Lively is not perfect, no one really is. We should accept the fact that she can have bad days too. People often tend to focus on the most negative and worst moments of others actions and depict them as bad people overall. In the end, it is fine to feel whatever way you feel about her, but we cannot deny that she is a great actress.
Nay:
Blake Lively, an actress notable for her roles in Gossip Girl, The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants, The Age of Adeline and numerous other films and TV shows, has always seemed to be one of the many so-called “it girls” of Hollywood. From her acting career to her directorial debut, as well as her stunning met gala looks, Blake Lively is the type of person everyone wants to be. At least, so we thought.
San Marcos Sophomore Dulce Cardona stated,“I feel like Blake Lively is just a nepo baby. I feel like in all her roles she isn’t serious and it just bothers me.”
Both Lively’s Parents Elaine Lively and Ernie Lively are well known in Hollywood. Ernie Lively acted for over 50 years in the film industry and even had small roles alongside his daughter in The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants, Sandman, and Simon Says. Elaine Lively on the other hand worked as a talent manager and also had small roles in many films. Therefore, Lively has always had a sense of relevance even if it wasn’t her own. If she didn’t have her own popularity she would always carry her parents fame. Blake Lively is the ultimate definition of a nepo baby.
Over the years, Blake Lively has been portrayed as a stereotypical “good girl” in the film industry. Lively has never faced any kind of allegations until recently. Soon after Lively’s role in the film adaptation of the well known Colleen Hoover book It Ends With Us, rumors and allegations began to pile up, affecting Lively’s reputation.
After the release of the movie, rumors began to circulate about the on-set environment while filming, which sources indicate weren’t so friendly but instead tense and uncomfortable between Blake and co-star/director of the movie Justin Baldoni. After the movie’s release, fans on both Instagram and TikTok started to not only side with Baldoni but also find interviews of Lively which showed her giving sarcastic remarks and showing no sense of empathy towards the film. While on-press tour for this movie, Lively decided to discuss her new hair products, which isn’t just irrelevant but inappropriate as she is promoting herself rather than the film. The purpose of this movie was to raise awareness about victims of domestic violence, and Lively discussed topics entirely unrelated to this. When doing a video about the movie on Evie Magazine’s TikTok account Lively’s response was, “Grab your friends, wear your florals, and head out to see it!” Lively created a completely opposite narrative than the one that was intended and needed for this film.
After this series of backlash towards Lively, fans began to search and found even more instances of Lively being a “mean girl”. An interview for her film Cafe Society resurfaced the web where the interviewer congratulated Lively on her pregnancy and used the words, “Congrats on your little bump.” Lively took offense to this and replied, “Congrats on your little bump!” in a sarcastic tone. The journalist was not pregnant and it was later revealed that she was infertile. After that awkward interaction, Blake did not make eye contact with the interviewer for the rest of the conversation and gave snarky remarks to almost all of her questions.
To this day, Blake Lively has not apologized or tried to apologize for any of her past remarks or actions. This demonstrates the careless and selfish type of person Blake Lively really is. If you’re going to choose a career in the film industry, you must remember that even though you may not know everything about someone, you really never know what they are going through. That is a key lesson that Blake Lively still hasn’t mastered yet. It turns out that Blake Lively may not be your perfect all American girl after all.
