Every week, many San Marcos students head to Crumbl Cookies to try the latest flavors. Crumbl replaces five of its six cookies each week, always keeping the classic milk chocolate chip or semi-sweet chocolate chunk cookie. However, last week, they had eight cookies instead of the usual six. Last week, Pink Sugar returned. Pink sugar used to be a cookie that was on the menu every week, but last Spring that stopped. Instead of Pink Sugar every week, Crumbl began to bake other things such as a special cake, brownie, dish, etc. After chocolate chip, the most popular Crumbl Cookie flavors are Oreo and Pink Sugar. A friend of mine and I were lucky to try 6/8 of these flavors, excluding oatmeal raisin and the classic chocolate chip.
The first cookie under review is Strawberry Cupcake. This cookie consists of a cakey vanilla base with bright pink frosting. The frosting is mixed with dried strawberries which gives it its unique color and flavor. Overall, the strawberry flavor was decent, and the cookie was not bad. It gets a 6.5/10.
The next cookie to be reviewed is the New York Cheesecake. As someone who doesn’t like cheesecake, I was surprised that this cookie was the best in the box. The base was chilled and not too sweet and was frosted thin layer of cream cheese frosting sprinkled with graham cracker crumbs. Crumbl has a reputation of being too sweet but this pairing delicious. We awarded this cookie with a 9/10.
“This cookie is so good and definitely my favorite of the cookies,” said junior Emme Newell.
The third cookie flavor is M&M. This cookie was good, but you can never beat the classic chocolate chip. Overall, you can get something with a very similar flavor for much cheaper therefore this cookie only gets a 6/10.
Peanut Butter Blossom proved to be the worst of the box and only got a score of 4/10. The peanut butter cookie base was dry and flavorless. The chocolate frosting was great so I wish there had been more of it.
Up next, we tried a pretty controversial flavor: Pink Sugar. This is the cookie that people seem to either love or hate with no inbetween. I tried this flavor back in September and I loved it. The frosting was sweet but not overpowering, and the cookie itself was thick and tasted like almonds. However, rumors have been circulating that Crumbl recently changed their Pink Sugar recipe. When trying it this time around, we found the cookie to be too sweet and very crumbly. The ratio of frosting to cookie was also off. However, this is an easy fix, just remove some of the frosting. With this modification, the cookie scores a 7/10.
Last but certainly not least, is Butter Cake, which is not a cookie but a mini cake rolled with sugar and topped with a layer of vanilla whipped cream. This was easily the best in the whole box, and we awarded it with a 10/10. I wasn’t expecting to love it but it was delicious. The cake had a dense flavor that was rich but not overpowering.
Although this week was a bit overhyped, it was still a good week in terms of Crumbl flavors. All of the flavors were perfectly enjoyable and many scored very highly, except maybe Peanut Butter Blossom and Pink Sugar due to the really sweet icing.
