Every year, there are certain foods that tend to trend on social media platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. In 2016 it was the Unicorn Frappuccino and in 2020 it was Dalgona (whipped) coffee. In 2024 there were many trendy foods that were invented/brought to light.
The first is Swedish Candy. This began trending in March of 2024, but didn’t become really popular until later that spring and is still very in trend. The delicious candy comes from a brand called BUBS and is extremely expensive and hard to get your hands on. The candy is shipped all the way from Sweden itself and is popular for its flavor and foamy texture. The two most trendy types by BUBS are the skulls and the ovals. Both of those come in normal and sour types. I got the opportunity to try these myself, and my favorite was the Coca Cola Sour Skull gummies. I purchased them at a Swedish candy story called “Sockerbit” located near the Grove in Los Angeles.
Another viral trend worth tasting was the famous cucumber salad. TikToker Logan started making videos starting with the catchphrase, “Sometimes you just need to have a whole cucumber.” He would then thinly slice the vegetable via a mandolin into a container, where he would add random ingredients ranging from cream cheese to vinegar. I tried the classic cucumber salad over the summer, around the time when the salad began becoming very popular. The version I tried was simple with basic ingredients such as sesame oil, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes. It was delicious and I highly recommend it if you want to eat vegetables but have fun with it too.
Next is Crumbl Cookies. Crumbl has been popular for a very long time but just this year it became a trend to post reviews of all 6 cookies in the weekly line up. Crumbl changes their flavors every week which is an appealing factor for students who are adventurous and want to try new things. Crumbl Cookie mukbang videos are very popular on TikTok where viewers can watch people eat and review the cookies. This can be helpful if you don’t know which cookies you want.
Overall, 2024 was filled with many delicious food trends. Although it is 2025 now, don’t miss out and try these if you haven’t yet!
