More often than not, we hear about teachers that are leaving the school rather than joining. So instead we are going to hear about the new teachers! We are going to begin with our new math teacher, Ms. Hernandez.
Ms. Hernandez responds to how she began to think about becoming a teacher.
“I started working at a farm, so outside? Education was hard to come by. I thought it was so much fun teaching math so I decided to try being a math teacher for high schoolers.”
Ms. Hernandez says her opinion on San Marcos students compared to SB students.
“It’s great, there’s a different atmosphere here around the SM students unlike the SB ones. I think it’s different because I was a Don for a long time, but so far all of the students here have been really similar.”
Now to our second new teacher, Ms. Mendoza. She teaches Spanish one and Spanish two.
Ms. Mendoza explains where she was teaching before San Marcos.
“So I was working last year as a bi-lingual specialist at DP and then I transitioned to a new position as a Spanish teacher at SM.”
She also explains why she decided to teach Spanish.
“I decided to teach because ever since college I saw my Spanish teacher’s passion he had, and I was like, ok, I want to do that. So that’s why I applied to teach, also to inspire other students that want to study Spanish.”
Finally our third new teacher, Ms. Dietz the new social studies teacher.
Ms. Dietz explains what she did before teaching social studies.
“I have always thought about teaching when I was younger, and when I started coaching softball at San Marcos I loved it. I really just wanted to be around high schoolers so I can be their role model.”
Ms. Dietz shares her past teachings.
“After finishing my teacher credential, I was a designated sight sub here, and then for the last two years, I was a history teacher at La Cumbre junior high, and now I am back here for my third year teaching.”
