With Halloween right around the corner, a commonly asked question is, “What are you going to be for Halloween?” It might be tough to figure out what to wear, especially if you are busy or do not want to put much thought into it. Halloween is often dismissed as a kid’s holiday, but that does not mean high schoolers cannot dress up too!

If you want to come up with a Halloween costume quickly, an easy option is to use the extra materials you have around your house. For example, you could be a ghost with just a sheet and scissors.

Another easy costume is a skeleton. All you need is some black clothing, paper, tape and a pair of scissors. If you want to add makeup to this look, you can draw the shape of a skull on your face with a black eyeliner pen.

A simple but classic Halloween costume is a cat. To be a cat, you need a pair of cat ears, black clothing, and some eyeliner to draw whiskers on.

Level: Medium, Prep Time: 1-5 days

If you are looking to plan your Halloween costume ahead of time but you do not want to put too much time into planning your costume, these are some perfect options.

If you want to do a group costume, then an iconic choice is dressing up as the Mean Girls. You just need a skirt and a crop top. Depending on which girl you are in the group, the exact clothing items you need will be different. This is a perfect costume to do with a group of 3 or 4 girls.

Another group costume that does not take too much planning is the Mystery Inc. gang from Scooby Doo. This is a perfect group costume to do with both girls and boys. For Daphne, you need a purple dress and a green scarf. If you are dressing up as Velma, you will need a red skirt and an orange turtle neck. If you are dressing up as Fred, you need blue jeans, a button-up shirt, a white sweater, and an orange bow tie or scarf. To be Shaggy, you need some reddish brown pants and a green t-shirt. If someone in your group wants to be Scooby, you can easily find a costume on Amazon.

A popular costume this year is going to be pirates. San Marcos Junior Candace Cugnier said, “I think those pirate costumes are cute. I have seen some online.” To be a pirate, you need a bandana, a flowy white shirt/dress, and a corset. You can add some other accessories like jewelry, gold chains and tall black boots.

Level: Hard, Prep Time: 2-15 days

Some people love to go all out for Halloween. If you are one of those people, you probably have a costume picked out already, but if you do not, a good costume that takes a good amount of time to prepare is Cruella.

To dress up as Cruella, you need to have half of your hair white and half of your hair black/dark brown. You can find a wig online or if you are a fan of changing up your hair, you can bleach your hair. Other than Cruella’s recognizable hair, you will need a furry or soft white coat/shawl, a pair of red gloves, and either a black dress or a black shirt and black pants. If you want to add makeup to your Halloween costume, you can do a simple light green eyeshadow look or you can do a darker feminine eye look.

Another more complicated costume you could dress up as is a zombie. A zombie could be a simple costume, but it could also easily be made into a complex costume. You will need a basic face-painting kit. You just need to paint a base layer of greenish gray on your face and add some purple or blue details to look like bruises. As a final touch, you can add some red paint in areas to look like blood. For the outfit, you just need well-worn clothing.

Hopefully this article inspired you to get into the Halloween spirit! Although it may be hard to find a Halloween costume, there is inspiration everywhere you look.  All of the fashion items in this article you can find online, in thrift stores, or in your seasonal Halloween store. Have a spooky Halloween! By the way, remember to go crazy with dry ice.
