The undefeated varsity girls volleyball team is making a name for themselves as they have started the preseason hitting the ground running. They have been on a roll and it doesn’t seem like they are stopping anytime soon. They have some great talent on the team consisting of juniors, seniors, sophomores and even some freshmen.
A key component to this winning team is Eloise McGibben. She has had great games so far and has the power to spike the ball over the net. Josie Gamberdella, a new freshman, has shown her skill off on the varsity squad. Gamberdella has the genes as her older sister, Ellie Gamberdella, was a star volleyball player at San Marcos a couple of years ago and is now playing at the collegiate level. Josie has what it takes to be a star on this team and it is only the start for her as the varsity team’s regular season is underway!
A current Royal on the varsity team, Eloise McGibben had this to say, “Everyone on this team has been working so hard this season and it has really begun to show up on the court.” I agree with this statement by Eloise, because as the looks of it, this statement is spot on.
When asked about what she thinks of our volleyball team this year varsity sophomore Katie Kracke said, “Our team really has potential to succeed,” said sophomore Katie Kracke. “Our team really has the chemistry to win further in the future.”
The team has shown a lot of potential and has hopes of winning Channel League. There are some exciting rivalries in the regular season such as our cross town rivals, the Santa Barbara Dons, who are going to be challenging competition. The Dos Pueblos Chargers are also seen as a big threat to our Royals as they have a team full of talent. Despite this, San Marcos has what it takes to defeat both of our cross town rivals! GO ROYALS!\
