Basketball season is back with a full schedule and a full arena! Both basketball teams are expected to have an exciting season and make a push for postseason play.
The boy’s basketball team is looking forward to the start of the season with a lot of seniors. Last season the boy’s team went 11-5 with the shortened season and finished first in the league, they are looking to build upon this and finish even better this season. They are led by veterans and have tons of talent. “I’m ready for the season to begin,” said senior forward Conner Acuna “I think our senior class is really set on achieving our goals for the year.” The team has started the year with tournament play against some tough teams, the team is holding their own and these games are helping them get stronger for their league games down the line. The boy’s team opened their season against Oxnard as well losing 58-53, they quickly bounced back and won the next 2 with players such as Aidan Mandel, Tj Robinson, Julian Hicks, and Shakir Ahmad leading the way offensively.
The girl’s team is also looking promising this season as they have started their non-league play as well against some tough teams. Last season the girls went 6-7 and finished third in their league. They are looking to build upon last season and their competitive start to this season. This gets the girls ready for their league games as they have challenged some of the better schools and players in the southern section.
“We are very excited for this season. We have a strong team and are feeling confident.” said senior Piper Nielsen ”Our main goal is to win the league this year. Our team has a strong relationship with one another which has allowed us to compete together against high level teams.” The season opener for the girls was against Oxnard and the royals fought hard but lost 58-38.
Both teams are expecting big things this season and to hopefully win their leagues and make the playoffs with both teams having rocky starts they will look to rebound with the rest of their non-league play and head into their league play with momentum.
