Busy Beach Volleyball
Girls Beach Volleyball has been busy and excited as they kick off their Spring season this year. They had an extremely successful season last year, losing only two very close league and pre-season games total to Arroyo Grande and Santa Ynez. Girls Beach Volleyball became an official CIF sport only last year, and this year will be the first CIF playoffs that teams across California, including our Royals, will compete in.
The program graduated two seniors last year off of Varsity: Ava Cole and Kennedy Frisell, both of whom played in the top three seeds for San Marcos. With the loss of two notable seniors, the program brought on five freshmen to varsity, all of whom are continuing to show great promise for the future of the program.
“I am super happy with what these freshmen have to offer to our program,” said head coach of the Varsity Beach Volleyball team, Cassidy Drury-Pullen.“They have been working so hard this year, and it will be very exciting to watch what they will accomplish, and how much they will grow over the next four years”
As defending Channel League Champions, the team is coming into this season working hard and looking to defend their title. The Royals are off to a strong start and are currently undefeated through preseason, going into the league with a record of 3-0. The team is very driven and excited for their impending season, which was reflected in the interviews with some of the seniors from the team.
“My goal for our team this year is to win the league again, and hopefully win CIF as well” said senior and four year Varsity beach and indoor player Riley Green. “I also hope to upset DP’s 1’s seed and win.”
Senior indoor and beach volleyball player Devyn Brunet said that she is most looking forward to, “Hopefully winning channel league, working hard and getting better, and bonding with many of my new teammates.”
Girls Beach Volleyball looks as though they are off to a very strong and promising start to their season. To be part of the excitement, go show some Royal spirit and support your fellow Royals next week, Wednesday, March 8th, as they face crosstown rivals Santa Barbara High School!
