Prada. Bottega Venta. The Row. Each of these top tier luxury fashion brands has made a determination: Tomato Red is this year’s number one fall color.
According to Vogue Magazine’s August 24, 2023 issue, “There was no doubt about it. Tomato red took the runways by storm as the shade du jour for the fall 2023 season.”
Alongside red, we are expected to see a great deal of silver, black and white this fall, as well as an increase in lace, which can be seen in 1930’s inspired slip dresses. Additionally, prep-meets-street mash ups have gained increasing popularity featured in several fall collections from brands such as Gucci, Ambush, and Miu Miu. One other trend worth mentioning is the rise of knee-high boots brought to the forefront by fashion designer Stella McCartney.
These trends have started to reach mainstream media too, TikTok and Instagram fashion accounts like @miks_Tiks and @reecelopez are in consensus that red is this year’s fall color, and to expect to see it as pops of color in mainstream fashion such as in vintage leather jackets, boots, and accessories. We will also be seeing a rise in popularity in loafers, ballet flats, and boat necklines.
Students at San Marcos High School are likewise gearing up for this year’s fall season, and are excited to embrace some of this year’s trends.
Sophomore Amber Coltrin shares her fall staples, “…Doc Martens, Cardigans, Jean Skirts, and Crochet tops. I’m also excited for more jewelry, bracelets, ribbons and the color red.”
Senior Vic Chow anticipates that, “Bows I think are going to be very big, it’s a Gracie Abrams fall.”
Both girls were also optimistic that they can once again start wearing tights as the weather cools down and embrace the color green.
As for what guys are ready to wear this fall, junior Eli Anderson said he was ready to, “Wear some warmer clothes, maybe some sweaters.”
Biology and Avid teacher, Mr. Vega said he was all about, “Comfortable sneaker shoes that can be worn with nicer attire.”
When shopping for their fall outfits San Marcos students appear to greatly enjoy thrifting, both in physical and online stores, with e-commerce companies such as Depop being extremely popular. All in all, it looks like this fall season is going to be a good one, from boots to boat necklines, with bright shades of red and everything in between.
