Yesterday afternoon, January 16, the San Marcos Girls Water Polo played a competitive game against cross-town rivals, the Dos Pueblos Chargers, which they hosted and defeated 12-5. This win brought their season record to 19-3 (W-L) and qualified them for CIF. CIF games start at the beginning of February.
Many friends and family went to show their support for the players showcasing their talent. It was an extra special game because it was Seniors’ Night. The team has three seniors, Makenna Stretz, Serenity Stanfield, and Kiera Kinsella, who have been playing for San Marcos since their freshman year. Before the game began, their coach, Chuckie Roth, honored them with speeches. The seniors were also given flower bouquets and SM ribbons by the team, along with hugs and high fives.
“The game went well! It was fun especially because we got to play against our friends and everyone had a good attitude,” said goalie senior Serenity Standfield.
This game was equally intense and a lot of fun for all the girls playing since many of them have been on club teams and grew up playing the sport with the Dos Pueblos team members. This made it all the while more competitive and exciting, but extraordinarily entertaining.
“Everyone has worked really hard and we’ve come together as a community,” said Shea Estabrook. “We’re not just teammates, we’ve also become friends.”
Next game is against Buena on Tuesday, January 23. Tickets will be available on GoFan.
