With a record-breaking donation fueling a state-of-the-art new project, this year’s Royal Pride Foundation Donor Appreciation event celebrated the generosity of the Royal Pride Foundation and other Donors. The Royal Pride Foundation annual Donor Appreciation event took place on Sunday September 29th. With food and drink set up in the backyard of the gracious hosts William Hefner and Magan Eng, the event commenced.
Although this celebration is about all donations made to support San Marcos, this year there was a specific focus on the 1.5 million dollar donation for the Building Community Wellness project made by John C. Mithun Foundation. This donation is the largest donation San Marcos has received since the school opened in 1958.
The Building Community Wellness project consists of 2 major steps. The first part of the project focuses on reimagining the wellness center on the San Marcos campus and transforming it into a top-of-the-line wellness facility focused on providing emotional, physical, and mental help to all San Marcos students. The second step of the project is to create a new building that would serve as a separate campus for the Health Careers Academy which would allow the HCA to significantly expand the opportunities it presents to its students.
At the donor appreciation event, many speakers took the stage to further explain the impact of this project as well as to say thanks to the many donors responsible for making the project a reality. One of these speakers was San Marcos Principal Dare Holdren who spoke about why he thinks the BCW is an integral part to bettering San Marcos.
“I feel so honored to have all of you here with me today and working towards something that will be so special for so many people,” said Mr Holdren at one point in his speech.
Mr Holden went on to thank some of the other crucial donors to the BCW project, Tim and Louis Casey.
Following Principal Dare Holdren’s inspiring words, Susan Torrey spoke about why the John C. Mithun Foundation believes in the importance of the BCW project and why they made the record-breaking donation.
“We know that San Marcos Wellness Center is truly one of the most consequential projects for our students but also for our community, but most importantly it is for the generations to come.”she said.
Whilst the event was mostly focused on giving thanks to the major donations received for the BCW, the speakers made sure to highlight the other projects that the RPF has helped fund: The new Mural, and campus beautification among many other efforts to improve San Marcos.
With such incredible support from the Royal Pride Foundation and generous donors, San Marcos is not only one major step closer to fulfilling the vision of becoming “the best school ever,” as Principal Holdren puts it, but it’s also creating a foundation for lasting improvement at San Marcos. All of the effort put into the SM community by all the donors will surely be evident for generations to come.
