It is that time of the year ladies and gentlemen, Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day. Where everyone gets chocolates, adorable stuffed animals, and roses of course. We celebrate these days in February for people in relationships, friendships, and our families.
First, we have Valentine’s Day. When I think of Valentine’s Day, I envision couples giving each other chocolates in a heart shaped box, a bunch of red roses, and cards filled with sweet messages but I think that is sort of overrated. I just think that people expect too much on Valentine’s Day or people get easily stressed on what to get for their significant other. Do not get me wrong, I think it is very sweet that people in relationships like to be extra special on Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day should be special for your significant other and should not be too chaotic.
Next we have Galentine’s Day. Galentine’s Day is basically women celebrating their friendships on the 13th of February. I personally think that I like Galentine’s Day more because I can make baked goods for my friends and give out cards with them. On Galentine’s Day you can get together with your friends and watch a bunch of movies and eat a bunch of desserts. Galentine’s Day could seem more platonic than Valentine’s Day if you do not have a significant other but you can also celebrate Valentine’s Day platonically as well.
“Personally on Valentines, I would have loved to have someone by my side,” said junior Sofia Garcia. “However after being heartbroken I’ve realized that I am still young and I should be living my life, having fun and focusing on myself.”
“Honestly, I think I’d prefer Galentine’s Day because one, I don’t have a significant other,” said junior Tatiana Jasso. “And two, I have a lot of friends that I’d want to spend that day with and will always enjoy my time with them.”
In conclusion, I think that both Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day are both very sweet days to celebrate with loved ones whether it be with your siblings, significant other, friends, and family. So go grab your chocolates and go celebrate with whoever you want to celebrate with.
