Five Movies to Watch This Fall Season

Five+Movies+to+Watch+This+Fall+Season

Fall is a great season to get cozy, have a cup of tea, and watch a great movie. Sometimes it is hard to find new movies to watch that would interest you. Here are five movies in no particular order that have been recommended by students and teachers here at San Marcos.

Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

This movie may be a bit controversial as some people say it is a Christmas movie and some people think it is a Halloween movie. For this article we will just say it is a fall movie. Nightmare Before Christmas is a movie about a place called Halloween Town. Jack Skellington is a very famous person in this town, as he runs Halloween. One day he finds doors to different places and finds himself in a Christmas world and it makes him want to operate Christmas instead of Santa. He comes up with a plan and gets to work with the preparations.

Nightmare Before Christmas is a great option to watch with family as it is also kid friendly, it is very comedic, full of surprises, and has a very interesting plot throughout.

“There’s love, death, and evil people,” said freshman Serah Angel.

Breakfast Club (1985)

Breakfast Club is an older movie about five students who end up getting detention. The students all have to sit in the library together for eight hours. All of the kids are very different, there is a jock, a nerd, a trouble maker, a popular girl, and a quiet girl. The movie starts with all of the students bickering, however, as the movie goes on and they all start to learn more about one another, they start to become very close. However, keep in mind this is a R-rated movie so it may be better to watch with parents.

“what really matters is invisible to the eyes, that’s what this movie means to me,” said Math 1A H teacher Mr. Pettit

Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Pride and Prejudice takes place in England in the 1800s. The story is about the Bennets, a family with five daughters who are living in the country. One day Mr. Bingley comes to stay in the country for a while near the Bennets and they end up becoming acquainted. Mr. Bingley has a friend who also comes to stay with him for a while named Mr. Darcy. Mr. Bingley introduces Mr. Darcy to the Bennets and immediately, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth (the second oldest daughter of the Bennets) dislike each other. The rest of the movie is about how Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy end up getting closer and over time, and fall in love with each other.

“The og enemies to lovers,” said senior Olivia Marceda

Legally Blonde (2001)

Legally Blonde is a movie about a girl named Elle Woods who is a stereotypical blonde girl. Her boyfriend Warner breaks up with her because he wants to go to Harvard Law School. Elle decides to get back at him by studying hard and getting good grades and she ends up getting into Harvard alongside Warner. At first Warner is surprised by Elle getting into Harvard but over time she becomes a great lawyer and even solves a case. The movie focuses on how Elle grows as a person, not caring as much about what other people think about her and all of the relationships she makes while she is at Harvard. This is another movie that is great to watch with family or friends.

“I think Legally Blonde shows that through perseverance you can achieve your goals. even if it’s a guy,” said freshman Cambria Stephens

The Fault in Our Stars (2014)

The Fault in Our Stars is a heartwarming movie about a girl named Hazel who has terminal lung cancer. She is a teenager and has no friends since she does not go out much due to her condition. One day Hazel’s doctor tells her to go try out a support group. The first time she goes she hates it, however, her parents make her go again because they think that it is good for her. The second time, she meets someone named Augustus and they grow close very fast and become best friends. Augustus falls in love with Hazel but she tries to ignore his feelings as she does not want him to get hurt when she inevitably dies. After some time though she finally accepts his feelings and the movie follows their relationship over the next few months. The Fault in Our Stars is a great movie if you like romance that has a lot of emotion and great characters.

“this is a very heartfelt and romantic story,” said freshman Eva Stewart

Hopefully this list has helped you find at least one or two new movies to add to your watch list. Happy watching!
