The San Marcos prom committee has decided to ditch the glitz and glamor of the Roaring Twenties for something a little more… swampy. Yes, you read that right. The Great Gatsby theme has been cast aside in favor of none other than a Shrek-themed prom.

The announcement sent shockwaves through the student body, leaving many scratching their heads in confusion and disbelief.

‘I thought it was a joke at first,” remarked senior Fiona Farquill, who was initially planning on channeling her inner flapper for the occasion. “But then I realized they were serious. Who would’ve thought we’d be slow dancing to ‘All Star’ instead of ‘Young and Beautiful’?”

The decision reportedly came after a heated debate among the senior class’s prom committee members. ome argued for more traditional themes while others championed the  appeal of everyone’s favorite ogre. In the end, the allure of Shrek’s fairytale world won out.

Students, meanwhile, have begun brainstorming their prom attire with a newfound sense of swamp-fairy-princess-mob-wife-aesthetic.

“I guess I’ll have to find a green dress to match my date’s Shrek costume,” said senior Gingy Crumbleton, envisioning a night of swampy-fairy-tale fun. “It’s definitely going to be a prom to remember, that’s for sure.”

As for the decor, rumors are swirling that the UCSB Thunderdome will be transformed into a magical swamp, complete with bubbling cauldrons and moss-covered trees. There is also speculation that raw onions will be served for students to enjoy when taking a break off the dance floor.

“I can’t wait to see how they pull it off,” exclaimed senior Donkey O’Neal, already anticipating the Instagram-worthy photo ops.

Despite the initial shock, it seems the Shrek-themed prom is shaping up to be a silly goose and unforgettable evening for students and faculty alike. So dust off those donkey ears and polish those Fiona tiaras, because this prom is going to be ogre-the-top in the best possible way.
