The San Marcos girls tennis team have been dominating this season with landslide-winning matches sweeping with 6 sets in competitions. This season, the Royals crushed Dos Pueblos (September 21st) with our 10-2 win as well as our 18-0 win against Carbilo (September 23). With so much more to still look ahead for our season, let’s take a look at how it’s been going.
This year we have many returning players such as defending singles champion Natasha Gill. Other starters include Cristina Wickline and Stella Crawford who is also in singles with freshman Ava Vasquez.
“I am excited and proud of myself.” Said Vasquez, “I think this season we are doing really great. I think the team is very supportive of each other and we have good chemistry. I think we’re crushing it. ”
Many claim that the team is not only strong as players, but as teammates which Vasquez discussed. They have team dinners about once every two weeks. These get-togethers are greatly appreciated by the team, who all laugh while reflecting on their last dinner, two weeks ago.
“It’s always really fun.” Said starting varsity doubles player Jolie Mardiat. “It gives us time to bond and get to know each other a bit more.”
For doubles we have solid starting pairs on varsity with Jolie Mardiat and Victoria Chow, Summer Dolotta and Bridget Cunnison, Victoria Laszuk and Helena Manar, and Charlotte Manion paired with Sydney Posch, who is also a freshman this year at San Marcos.
“We have a strong lineup this season,” said Mardiat, “I am feeling great so far this season, with our undefeated title, and defensive playing.”
So far our team has won seven out of seven matches this season. We are undefeated and this alone can excite us into our next and upcoming season. With the majority of our Varsity and JV team’s being sophomores, we have several years ahead to move up in division rankings and have a chance of winning the Chanel League this season.
Before their match on the 23rd of September, Victoria Chow as she was getting on the van headed to Cabrillo High School said that, “I’ve never been so anxious to get out on the court and play. I feel very prepared and excited.”
The girls tennis team here at San Marcos has clearly shown how strong they are. Make sure to share your support for the team, and attend their upcoming matches. GO ROYALS!
