NBA champion Dwayne Wade and Dirk Nowitzki have been announced to join the 2023 basketball hall of fame class. They will be joining four other hall of famers ready to be inducted. Those people include Tony Parker, a guard for the San Antonio Spurs from 2001-2018 where he led the Spurs to five finals appearances. Becky Hammon and Greg Popavich who were both a part of the Spurs dynasty as Popovich is a highly respected coach among the league building the Spurs franchise as one the best in history, as well as coached the USA team from 2015- 2021. 

Greg Popovich had an abundant amount of talent around him including point guard Tony Parker, hall of famer Tim Duncan, David Robinson,  2014 finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and 2007 6MOTY, Manu Ginobili arguably one of the best players to ever come off the bench. These players were all apart in building the Spurs dynasty from the early 2000s as they won the finals four times between the years 2003-2014. 

  Becky Hammon was also a part of this amazing franchise. Being  one of only 15 female coaches to become an assistant in the NBA in the league’s 76th year span. Hammon was also the first ever coach to have a million dollar salary in the WNBA when coaching the Las Vegas aces to a championship this past year. 

“They got players and coaches who changed the game. Definitely a strong hall of fame class.” said San Marcos student Brett Hollowell when asked what his thoughts were on this year’s class. 

Another San Marcos student who overheard also shouted,  “I want to give Dwayne Wade a shout out for helping me beat my brother in 2k all the time.”

These players and coaches have stamped their legacy on the game a ton whether it is playing, or outside  of the game of basketball, helping their communities and other people around the world. It’s going to be a great moment for not only them but the people who have been impacted by these six legends, as they get inducted in the 2023 basketball hall of fame.
