A very warm hello from your new editors-in-chief, Isabella “Bella” C. Hernandez and Tristan T. Gerdesic, who will be guiding this newspaper through the next year of dances, tests, and other school rituals. Bella has been in The King’s Page since her sophomore year where she started off as a staff writer and then eventually worked her way up to being a section editor for A&E her junior year. Bella first found her love of writing when she was 5 years old and had just read her first books, The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and Oh, The Places You’ll Go. After being ecstatic over the fact that she had succeeded for the first time in reading something from front to back, she grabbed her father’s Apple MacBook laptop, opened a new google doc and began typing random words with the intent that at least one of her sentences would make sense. Although her words have become less random, she never lost her passion for writing and trying to make sense of the world around her, which she hopes to harness at the King’s Page next year.
Tristan Gerdesic has been a staff writer for the beloved King’s Page since autumn of 2024, after moving to the United States from Richterswil, Switzerland in August of that year, and has been at various points either news or opinion editor since the beginning of the 2025/26 school year. His first experience writing started when he was 13 years old on the online music forum rateyourmusic.com, where he gained an appreciation for the ability of words to transfer passion andlove for art and meaning from one person to another. He hopes to continue this critical streak as editor-in-chief, as he did as opinion editor in 2025 and 2026. It is so important for journalists to always be honest about their thoughts and opinions, and Tristan hopes to do just that.
Tristan G. and Bella H. have been friends since their sophomore year, when they both started their journeys as King’s Page contributors. Throughout their time on the King’s Page they have found a deeper love for reporting and storytelling while also growing their friendship as a whole. They have found that working together has been one of the most positive aspects of being part of the King’s Page for the both of them. Whether they are both going to the Santa Barbara International Film festival to see Guillermo Del Toro and Jacob Elordi or cramming the day before the final issue goes to print, they always stick out for each other. While being staff writers both Tristan G. and Bella H. couldn’t be most excited to lead the newspaper into the 2026-2027 school year.
This year, we have big plans to expand our paper and media by creating more non-written materials for the King’s Page. Make sure to keep an eye out for our New King’s Corner video series where we ask both students and staff members our question of the week. This series can be seen on our Instagram, TikTok page, as well as our King’s Page website. Expanding the King’s Page to other forms of media is one of our top priorities as members of this community. We will also be posting plenty of funny videos and such on our social media platforms. If you want to advertise a club or organization you are a part of in the King’s Page, contact us or one of our other editors to get an article written and published. Last year, our articles for several clubs significantly improved their membership!
Overall, our primary intent this next year is to create an even stronger and stronger community with our fellow students and staff members. The San Marcos King’s Page represents everything that makes San Marcos Senior High School so incredibly great, and that San Marcos can be at its best. We hope to remain a forum where royals can show love and appreciation for their community and their friends, teachers and colleagues. The power of journalism, even on a local level, even with a newspaper run by amateurs, is that the world around us is something truly worth sharing. We all own the truth, and we are all owed the truth. And we, Tristan Gerdesic and Bella Hernandez, are overjoyed to be the guardians of that responsibility next year. We hope you all continue to enjoy reading and sharing the King’s Page for the rest of your high school careers.
