Ever wondered who’s behind the posters, dances, and spirit weeks that fill our campus? It’s ASB election season, when students of all grades can run for a position in the student government. ASB plans and hosts the activities you see occurring on campus, such as school dances, spirit weeks, new initiatives, clubs, student sections, school apparel, social media, and many more. These events don’t just make school more fun; they help build school spirit, give students a voice in what happens on campus, and create a stronger sense of community. As this year’s elections get underway, candidates are beginning to share their ideas, put up their posters, and convince students why they deserve your vote.
In the days leading up to the election on Monday, March 9th, campaign posters appeared across San Marcos, made by the students running for ASB positions, each with a different catchphrase to promote themselves and capture the attention of passing students. Candidates encouraged their classmates to vote and explained how they hoped to improve school events, increase student involvement, and bring new ideas to campus.
Students had the opportunity to vote for a variety of leadership roles, including ASB president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and other positions that help organize activities throughout the school year. Each role comes with unique responsibilities, from managing budgets and planning events to promoting school spirit and making sure student voices are heard. Voting gave students a chance to choose the peers they believe will best represent the student body and help shape student life on campus.
Now, without further ado, here is your 2026-27 ASB Executive Cabinet: President Josie Morris, Vice President Mel Starks, Treasurer Cambria Stevens, Secretary Daniel Hakobyan, Advocate Parlimentarian Selena Valencia, and Student Board Representative Mateo Gallegos! Each of these students brings a different set of strengths, ideas, and experiences to the team, from strong communication skills and creativity to organization and a passion for school spirit. Together, they will collaborate to make decisions, solve problems, and support one another as they take on the challenges of leading the student body.
“I’m really excited to help try to unify our school,” says junior Josie Morris, newly elected ASB President. “I know we are definitely bonded and have a very high-spirited and involved class with all grade levels, but there’s always room for improvement.”
The students elected to ASB will now take on the responsibility of planning many of the events that bring the school community together. From organizing spirit weeks and rallies to coordinating dances and student activities, the ASB plays a key role in creating the experiences that define the school year and become lasting memories for students. As they work closely with advisors, teachers, and other student leaders to schedule events, manage budgets, and promote participation, so that as many students as possible feel welcome to join in.
As the new ASB team steps into their roles, students can look forward to seeing how their ideas and leadership will shape the activities and traditions that make campus life exciting this next school year. But if you thought this would be the end of ASB elections, you thought wrong, because on Monday, March 23, you will vote for your class officers based on your grade. So, with that said, make sure you don’t miss out on finding out who will be representing your class next year, and congratulations to our new elected ASB Executive Cabinet.
