On Wednesday, February 25th, San Marcos hosted the second Club Rush of the year. The first club rush was in September, but after the semester switch, it was time to reintroduce clubs to the student body and welcome new members for the spring semester. Students got called out of their second period to begin setting up posters, sign-up sheets, and treats for their club table. Once the lunch bell rang, the real rush began. Students packed into the quad to learn about and sign up for new and returning clubs. The energy was high as music blasted through the quad, providing entertainment during the event. San Marcos has 67 clubs in total, and approximately 45 clubs were represented.
There were some new clubs at this year’s club rush, including the Cuisine Club, Club America, Mothers’ Helpers, YouthWell, and Sports Media Club. All of these clubs add a new extracurricular activity that students can become involved in. From cooking to political activity, this semester our clubs reflect the wide range of student interests at San Marcos.
“We are promoting San Marcos student athlete sports across campus with pictures, graphics and advertisements, we hope to provide great social media coverage and support our athletes,” said president of the Sports Media Club, Hector Meja Cruz. The club hopes to celebrate the achievements of student athletes while also providing students with the opportunity to learn about photography and social media management.
Spring Club Rush highlighted the involvement and school spirit present at San Marcos. With dozens of returning clubs and a handful of new ones, the event demonstrated that there truly is something for everyone on our campus. High school clubs provide students with a space to delve deeper into their interests and make an impactful change to the community. As the semester continues, these clubs will continue to strengthen and create friendly environments that make San Marcos what it is today.
