Spring is known as a time of growth and rebirth, and many feel the urge to start fresh during this season. As the weather gets warmer and we collectively come out of our winter hibernation, here are a few ways to rest for spring.
Spring Cleaning
After the cozy decor of the holiday season and an emphasis on an abundance of decor, spring can be a great time to start fresh. Whether it is some light decluttering or deep cleaning a larger area, cleaning can help you prepare for the upcoming season. Here are a few tips to make cleaning less daunting!
- Start small: It is common for people to not want to clean because they are so overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. Choose one room to begin, and set small goals. Picking up everything on the floor can be a good place to start, or tackling the papers that have been sitting around for way too long. Dividing up a room into zones or different tasks can make cleaning more systematic and manageable, rather than trying to fix everything all at once.
- Get rid of unused items: A common issue faced while cleaning is not knowing where to put certain items or not having enough room. Sometimes having more stuff can just add to everyday stress. If you find that a closet is feeling full or a pantry is starting to overflow, consider whether there are items that you can go without. A trick that can be implemented in your closet is turning all your hangers backwards and only turning them around again after wearing the item. After six months or a year, you can go through all the unturned hangers and decide if you actually want the clothes anymore.
- Make the experience enjoyable: Cleaning doesn’t need to be a dreaded task. Turn on your favorite music or a TV show while you clean and it will make the process much more fun!
Plant a Garden
Spring is known for plants growing and lots of produce being in season. Although many plants are ready to pick right now, spring is also a great time to start a garden. While you won’t get to enjoy the plants right now, you can have fun starting up a garden! Leafy greens, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, and peppers are all ideal to plant in the spring, along with flowers like primroses, hydrangeas, and petunias.
Find a New Hobby
Spring is a great time to start fresh, and that extends to hobbies. While we await summer, finding something you enjoy doing in your free time helps make these last few months of school more enjoyable! Here are some ideas of hobbies or activities to take up:
- Try a new sport
- Learn to play an instrument
- Cook or bake
- Draw, paint, or watercolor
- Take a pottery class
- Play a board game
- Take a walk or hike
- Read a new book
As the weather warms and we prepare for spring and summer, we hope these ideas help you prepare for the upcoming seasons.
