Last week, the Royals had incredible showings for all their sports in their games against cross-town rivals to finish off some of their regular seasons.
The San Marcos Girls lacrosse team was able to cap off an undefeated Channel League season, taking down Santa Barbara in a dominating 15-2 fashion. A top performer was Josephine Grossman, who scored seven goals to lead the charge and also tied the single-season scoring record on her senior night. Grossman had this to say about this to say on the win, “It was bittersweet because we know a lot of girls on their team and they bring this kindness and good sportsmanship, so it is always a fun game.” This win gave them the outright channel league title for the second year in a row and marked their 30th consecutive league win. Headed into CIF, they were 15-3, and in the first round against Los Alamitos, they squeaked out a 15-14 win before falling to El Sugeodo in their next game.
The San Marcos boys volleyball team was also able to down the Dons in three sets. Halfway through the first set, the Royals took a lead and never looked back, finishing the first set 25-17, the second 25-10, and capping it off with a 25-22 third set victory. Junior Captain Tyler Walker commented on the win, “We knew we weren’t going to lose, that is the best part, it felt like we were in control the whole time, and we were going to win.” Walker led a well-balanced attack, setting up hitters Matteo Burdick and Owen Willer for 13 and nine kills, respectively. This win secured their third consecutive channel league title, pushing their overall record to 25-2 and 10-0 in league play. In CIF play, they put up a good fight against Santa Margarita but fell short and lost in three sets.
The San Marcos Boys Lacrosse team also wrapped up its season against Santa Barbara last Tuesday. They persevered throughout the season, never giving up and always giving it their all through and through.
