Public displays of affection… two people love it, everyone else hates it. We seem to have a lot of PDA on our school campus, and this is supposed to be an opinion article but let’s be honest it’s a fact that we don’t want to see two people making out at 9:20 AM right before 1st period. Not only is it gross, but Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and many of us are single (HMU). Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, it seems like there is more PDA than usual, which is even worse! It is typically the same couples in the same spots. And no, I’m not telling y’all where they are
Landon Sheffey is an avid lover of PDA. I interviewed Sheffey and this is what he had to say, you know pda has always been a controversial subject especially in high school, but you know walking around school and I see a public display of affection it kinda makes me have hope for humanity because people aren’t scared to show their love and affection for each other in public, which I think that says a lot about a person and a relationship with each other.” I absolutely disagree with Landon. I believe PDA is a disgusting sight, but I understand where he is coming from.
I talked to an anonymous PDA enthusiast, who I occasionally see in the halls kissing his girl. I asked him what he thinks about PDA and he said, “It is disgusting when it is awkward, but it is fine if it is done right.”
I drive to school, and when I get to the A Lot I see two people just making out in the car in front of me. It’s 7 in the morning, I can’t even walk in a straight line that early. I surveyed very thoroughly through the 50 page school rule book and found 0 rules on public display of affection on school campuses. I asked Shakir Ahmad about his opinion on PDA and he said, “I think there’s a line where PDA can be seen as too inappropriate. Kissing for a couple seconds here and there with your significant other is fine, but if you’re making out for a while and also getting a bit handsy, that might be better off in private. I don’t really have an opinion either way since I like minding my business anyway, but I know other students may feel uncomfortable seeing that in a school setting.”
In conclusion, if you are with me in this stand against PDA then help our community be PDA free! You can start today by telling an intimate couple to get a room!
