The wait is officially over: the long-anticipated app update of the year, Spotify Wrapped, is finally here! Spotify Wrapped is the streamer’s tracked review of global listening that takes over Spotify’s main platforms each year for the month of December, with an alternating theme due to its marketing campaign. For Spotify’s 700 million loyal listeners, Spotify Wrapped is an exciting annual celebration that honors its listeners as well as the music industry as a whole.
The transitioning theme of this year is “a modern visual mixtape” evoking the idea of burned CDs and more traditional musical memories. This feel makes this year’s Wrapped into a textured work of art that describes each and every one of their listeners. This year’s theme had 14 different sections, each with their own personalized twists, some returning and some new. Returning factors included classic features such as minutes listened, as well as your top song(s), playlists, artists, genres, and podcasts. Newer features included listener’s “listening age”, top song quiz, top albums, top audiobook genres, top artist sprint, fan leaderboard, clubs, and listening archive.
San Marcos junior Allison Linares Ramirez stated, “I liked it because it was more detailed than it has been in the past and it felt very personal and accurate, my favorite feature was the listening archives where it says specific dates and why they’re special.”
An additional Spotify feature is the Wrapped Parties. This update encourages the listeners to engage in their wraps with their friends’ wraps, allowing a Spotify mix party to be born. This feature was designed to transport you and your friends back in time with your music listening.
Each year, Spotify manages to top its update from the year prior which allows the fans to only wonder what the next year will bring. Happy Spotify Wrapped!
