With Homecoming just around the corner and excitement growing for the first school dance this year, let’s take a closer look at our 2024-2025 Homecoming Court. On Friday, September 20th, Homecoming Court was revealed with this year’s nominees being: Ava Vasquez, Benjamin Callanan, Jackson Thatcher, Kenzie Hessell, Miles Moore, Miranda Mares Morales, Tatiana Leyva and Yara Martinez. Nominated by their peers, these students represent the best of our school’s spirit. Now it is their time to shine to make this year’s homecoming outstanding. To give you a better understanding of who you are voting for, we asked the nominees to explain why specifically they should be our 2024-2025 Homecoming Royalty.
The first nominee is Ava Vasquez. She is the captain of our varsity tennis team, plays on our beach volleyball team, is commissioner of internal affairs, and secretary of the Dream Foundation. In addition, she is a member of the AAPLE Academy. On why you should vote for her, Vasquez said “because I love everyone.”
Benjamin Callanan is our next nominee. He is a team captain for both cross country and track & field for San Marcos’ varsity team and is the A&E editor for the King’s Page. “People should vote for me because my grandma will be sad if I lose”, said Callanan.
Jackson Thatcher is also part of our ASB. He does Theater and is a member of the Madrigals choir. He plays lacrosse and is secretary of the Outdoors Club. Thatcher said, ”People should vote for me because I can speak six languages: Irish, Scottish, English, Australian, American and Canadian.”
Miles Moore is part of the AAPLE academy, the outdoor club and the robotics club. He is not only a part of our ASB but is also an assistant lacrosse coach. “People should vote for me because I have a pet alligator”, said Moore,” said Moore.
Kenzie Hessell plays on the Soccer and Water Polo team. She is also Scuba Club President as well as being a part of ASB. Hessell explained, “people should vote for me because my alligator would beat Miles’ alligator in an alligator fight.”
Miranda Mares Morales is a section leader of our marching band and a part of the Health Careers Academy. In addition, she is involved in Avid and ASB. “You should vote for me because I show everyone I meet kindness and respect and I’m involved in the San Marcos community,” said Miranda.
Tatiana Levya is a part of ASB and our entrepreneurship academy. She is the president of the Women In Business Club and a member of the varsity cheerleading team. On why people should vote for her, Llevya told us, “I embody what it means to be a Royal and I have a lot of school spirit.”
Our last but not least nominee is Yara Martinez. Martinez is also part of ASB, being the commissioner of Intercultural Relations. Clubs wise, she is the president as well as founder of the First Generation Scholars club. She is in Avid and the treasurer of the MECHA club. In addition to that, she plays softball.
