Do you ever feel like the Grinch, but instead of hating Christmas, you just can’t seem to fathom the hype for Halloween. One of the most favorite holidays in the world, and yet, you don’t want to decorate, trick or treat, or get excited about seeing another inflatable dinosaur costume for the tenth year in a row. But not celebrating would feel wrong — so what do you do on Halloween if you don’t trick-or-treat?
Okay, perhaps you actually do love Halloween. You just don’t want to trick-or-treat; it makes sense. Except there is no fun in sitting at home, doing nothing, on one of the most cherished days of the year. Here are some fun, non trick-or-treat activities to do on Halloween:
Bake-Day
Spend the day making baked goods themed for Halloween! (This is your excuse to check out my other article “Autumn Baked Desserts”) Bring your friends so you could have a baking competition and see who makes the tastiest treats.
Midnight Ding Dong Ditch
Now, maybe it’s a tad bit wrong to do this, but go around your neighborhood and ding dong ditch each house you go to, then wait in some bushes or behind a structure and watch them open the door. Cruel? No, it’s entertaining.
Candy Gambling
Games are fun and all, but what’s the point of winning if you don’t actually get a prize? Bring your friends over, have each person bring a bag of candy, and use the candy as a source of “money” in order for the games to feel like gambling.
Horror Movie Binge
Watch some of the top scariest horror movies while eating junk food and lights off. Maybe even open the window to let a cold, chilling breeze enhance those goosebumps along your skin.
IRL Granny Simulation
One of the most trending mobile horror games, Granny. With its sketchy music and mentally disturbed grandma, what’s there not to love? Now try to play it in real life! Have one person in a group wear a dress and a blindfold (to imitate the Granny), put clues around the house for the other players to find a key to escape, and play the theme music throughout the home. Make sure the Granny doesn’t touch you, or you’re dead! Turn off the lights to make it scarier.
Escape Room
Santa Barbara has an escape room downtown with up to four levels. One room being Grandma’s Basement, a spooky murder room that you have an hour to escape from. Got to try to escape, solving hard riddles and using logic to win.
Halloween can be spent in many fun forms, not just trick-or-treating.
