October is coming to a close, which means one thing— Halloween is upon us. One of the best parts of Halloween is picking a fun costume, but it can also be stressful to come up with ideas and buy new pieces of clothing to only wear once. If you ran out of time to pick a costume, here are some last minute ideas with clothes you probably already have around your house!
#1: Ghost
This simple costume is a classic for a reason. Simple but spooky, a ghost costume is a staple at any Halloween event. All you need is an old sheet that you can cut holes in for eyes, and you’re done!
#2: Tourist
Wishing you were on vacation right now? You can play the part of a tourist this Halloween— the tackier the better. This costume requires a Hawaiian shirt and shorts, but props really help sell the costume. Sunglasses, a camera, or a map all help make the costume more believable. If you want to go above and beyond. You can fake a sunburn with makeup.
#3: Cowboy/Cowgirl
If you want to go for a country theme, a cowgirl or cowboy costume is a great simple costume. This costume is a bit more flexible with what you need, so you can use different clothing items based on what you have. Cowboy boots and a cowboy hat are recommended because they are the most obvious hints as to what you are dressing up as. Some sort of denim bottoms are recommended and a gingham or plaid pattern (a shirt or flannel). Other accessories could include a handkerchief around your neck and a belt.
#4: Cat
The last costume option is another staple, a cat (or any animal for that matter). You need solid colored clothing (black or brown preferably) and cat ears, which you can easily make yourself by taping two triangular pieces of paper to a headband. Lastly, you can draw a nose and whiskers with eyeliner.
Students around San Marcos are planning their costumes, including senior Reagan Conway, who said, “I am going to be Luna Lovegood this year for Halloween.” Even if you don’t have a costume planned out yet, there is still time to pull something together. Hopefully some of these simple ideas will save you in a pinch, no trip to the costume store required!
